An evolving cinematic universe by Leilanni Todd. Fashion, film, and emerging technology, set in a post-flood future.

Floam World is an evolving cinematic universe by Leilanni Todd: a surreal, speculative future where fashion, beauty, and consumer products function as systems of survival, comfort, and self-expression. Built across film, editorial, and speculative product, the universe uses artificial intelligence as both medium and creative collaborator.

“The World is centered around ‘FLOAM’ – a fictional material born from discarded ocean plastics and debris.”

Runway Feature

Interior of a modern room on a boat or submarine, with a large round window showing the ocean, and four red-haired women dressed in fashionable clothing, one sitting at a table with a stack of octopus tentacles, another standing in the window holding a drink, and two seated on cushioned benches.

WHAT IS FLOAM WORLD?

A person with yellow hair and large pearl earrings looks at a manikin head with matching yellow hair, situated on a table inside a room with an oval window showing a cloudy sky and ocean.

Floam World sits somewhere between satire and possibility. The futures look strange but feel familiar. Because honestly, even at the end of the world, we'd still want to look good, laugh at something stupid, and find a small (ESC™) creature to hold the rest.

WHAT IS FLOAM?

FLOAM refers both to the world itself and to the adaptive materials within it. In this future, fashion isn't just aesthetic. It becomes flotation, protection, comfort, and sometimes emotional support as environments shift and water becomes part of daily life.

FLOAM grows out of two kinds of waste: the material kind and the emotional kind. Plastics, discarded technology, and ocean debris are one input. The emotional excess that overflows. Both get harvested, processed, and shaped into clothing, furniture, products, and occasionally something sentient. The universe runs on this loop. Feelings overflow, get collected, and get sold back to us as the next product designed to absorb the next round.

The Floamees are ESC™: Emotional Escape Creatures. Sentient products designed to do the feeling for us. Smilees™ smiles when you've run out of smiles. Leakees™ cries when you can't.

How much aliveness we already grant our things. They are objects we love, depend on, blame, and outgrow, products that perform feelings on our behalf, and somewhere along the way they started having feelings of their own.
